The rescue of sick or injured animals knows no boundaries, which is the sentiment felt by the Animal Rescue Team Taiwan, nationa's southern-based animal protection group, on December 11 when it worked with a foreign couple to rescue a dying dog in Tso-ying District of Kaohsiung City. It was the first time in the 10-year history that animal rescue team's rescuers have worked with foreigners in helping an injured animal "Words can't describe our gratitude and appreciation for what this foreign couple has done," said Joseph Nee, leader of the team.
Animal Rescue Team TAIWAN received a call in early December from Chris and Natasha, who are husband and wife, about a severely injured dog at the corner of Poai Road and Tachung Road in Kaohsiung City.The dog appeared to have sustained serious injuries around its neck, according to the couple.
Our team had dispatched volunteer workers to look for the dog several times, yet their search came to no avail. It was not until the afternoon of December 11 when the couple called again, describing the exact location of the dog, that the workers found the poor canine.
The couple, who was there waiting, worked with our rescuers to capture the dog, who tried hard to escape from the workers. We spent about an hour to capture the dog and took it to the nearly Hongli Veterinary Hospital for further treatment.
It turned out that the dog had a thick rubber bend tied around its neck, and the cut caused by the rubber bend was so deep that the dog's jocular had almost exposed, said Joseph Nee. The cut had begun to rot, eminating a strong odor. Thanks to the efforts of the hospital, the dog is now in stable condition and expected to recover in the near future.
As dogs may get tangled up with rubber bends while digging into leftover food in lunchboxes, Animal Rescue Team TAIWAN urges that people should throw their lunchboxes away in trash cans to prevent stray animals from potential dangers.
